Evidence of drinking Alcohol  is as old as 7000 BC from China’s history. Drinking has been talked about in India Vedas called as Soma Ras . Most of the country in this world drink alcohol.  In majority countries Alcohol is consumed as celebration  but  in many it is part of daily diet .  230 Billions Ltr of alcohol is produced every year in this world.  This can be in the shape of Liquor /Whisky /Scotch /Vodka / Wine / Beer . 25 countries are the major producers of Alcohol  which is lead by Scotland. Czech Republic drink maximum of Alcohol at 15Ltr/person/year. Saudi Arab have Zero Alcohol consumption.

Europeans drink the most

Consumption of Alcohol is linked to culture and  history of drinking habit of that particular country. European drink more Liquor than rest of the world. Early 1900s French was consuming 22 Ltr of Alcohol per person/ year . This World consume 230 Billions Ltr of Liquor every year. In addition to the  factory production  there is  a practice of brewing homemade Liquor in India and other countries. Only 20% Indians are regular liquor drinkers. All together India consumes 8.0 Billion Ltr of Liquor which is surprising equal to the World population. 55% of men in Arunachal Pradesh drink Alcohol and is on top in India , Punjab is at number 9th position. Alcohol in Goa is the cheapest.

Indian drink little Beer

Beer is also one of favourite drink worldwide. China is the leader consumer of the Beer . 190 Billion Ltr of Beer is consumed in this world with leader Czech republic’s people drinking 400 bottle of beer/person/year. World average beer consumption / person is 23 Ltr . As compared to average World consumption,  Indian drinks very little Beer at 3.0 Ltr /Person/Year. Arunachal Pradesh state is India’s biggest Beer consumer.

Scotch is another form of whiskey which was invented in Scotland in 1494. Scotch goes through aging process of 5 to 20 years in distilleries and kept in controlled temperature.   Scotland is the major producer and exporter of Scotch. 1.4 Billion bottle of scotch is produced in the world. France leads in consumption of Scotch at 180 Million bottles every year.  Johnnie walker the most popular Scotch brand alone produce 130 million bottles every year , which is equal to 4 bottle every seconds.

Alcohol is part of monthly groceries bill for few

Most of the Families have monthly budget for buying Alcohol.  Families in Belarus have maximum budget for Alcohol @ 8% of monthly expenses.

Indian consumes 12% of World’s Scotch

Whisky and Scotch is a modern day drinks for celebration, evening out and get together. Serving Liquor is a status symbols in marriage and other family functions. Many fine dining restaurants serves Alcohol along with the food. Most of the International airports have a separate section to sell Duty free Whisky. Alcohol is sold in supermarket in many countries. New York city have 2,500 pubs. London have 3,000 Pub and Paris have 4,300. Bangalore city of India has 50 Pub which is maximum in Asia. In Indian Punjab no marriage is considered complete without serving Whisky ( Daru) in the marriage party. Whisky sale is growing at the rate of 5% every year.
